Rockland Federal Credit Union is a really good place to get familiar with how the banking industry works on a surface level. There's virtually no pressure for entry level tellers to commit to sales goals, so you get to focus entirely on relationship building with the members and learning the basics of how everything works. This institution is genuinely dedicated to its members and that shows from the way it respects them enough to not push services they don't need. During my employment with RFCU, the average tenure was 18 years. This leaves very little room for you to advance within the branch environment without turnover, and back office positions don't open very often due to low turnover. While you could feasibly advance to a Teller IV position with enough experience and drive, transitioning to a more involved Member Service role was virtually impossible without someone electing to leave their position. Conversely, while there was little room to advance, the work environment was very stable. Good humor in the branch environment, and back office was always pleasant to interact with. During my two years, I worked primarily in Marshfield and covered five different branch locations between Plymouth, Hanover, Rockland, Mansfield, and Attleboro. The job responsibilities expected from a teller shifted from location to location, where I would be expected to or otherwise allowed to do things I wasn't at other branches. The inconsistency was somewhat disorienting and I think that the branches could benefit from having a uniform expectation of the teller position. Salary is not as competitive as other financial institutes, but you feel like family within the company. A member focused company culture is very refreshing in this world where so many institutions are about profits over service.
